I. Introduction
One of the greatest challenges and difficulties in being human is the inevitable experience of pain and suffering. Everyone hopes to avoid it, but almost nobody escapes. The effort to eliminate pain has been one of man's continuing quests. During the evolution of civilizations and cultures, many methods of pain abatement have been tested. Before discussing this, let us look at the definition of pain.
We all experience pain, but scientifically what is it? Most of us think of pain as an unpleasant sensation that originates in traumatized tissues and warns of injury, but pain also has emotional qualities as well.
There are many definitions for pain, among them the International Association for the Study of Pain defines pain as follows : "An unpleasant sensory and emotional experience normally associated with tissue damage or described in terms of such damage."
With the advance of civilization, many people have tried to perform pain relieving procedures to the patient suffering from pain.
In the western countries, many different modalities and treatments, such as medication, injections or nerve blocks, physical therapy and psychotherapy, biofeedback, acupuncture, and even implanted devices have been tried.
The usual therapeutic principles include the following : remove the origin of the noxious signal ; block the signal transmission from the peripheral tissues with opioids or other drugs to prevent such transmission ; inject temporary nerve blocks, or introduce

destructive lesions within the nervous system to prevent nerve transmission. Our level of understanding of pain is clearly incomplete. Pain is often managed inadequately, despite the ready availability of safe and effective treatments.
To manage pain, we should try to develop new, safe, and more effective methods without side effects, morbidity and mortality. In the Orient, pain has been controlled by such methods as bloodletting therapy, herbal medication, needling therapy, and pressure therapy. Oriental medicine has many advantages, but it has limits in treating severe, malignant and intractable diseases.
In several countries physicians understand the limitation of both medical fields, especially in the west. We see the rise of interest in "Complimentary and Alternative Medicine" and in multidisciplinary pain centers.
We know much about the mechanism of pain, but there is much to be learned. The sensory system relays information from both the external and the internal environment to the brain. Pain receptors are distributed in skin and mucous membrances and in the musculosckeletal systems. Tissue damage stimulates the release of endogenous pain provoking chemicals such as amines, polypeptides and alkaloids.

Sensory neurons relay information to the spinal cord via the dorsal root. Second order neurons synapse locally and cross the mid-line and run up the spinothalamic tract and lateral lemniscus to terminate in the thalamus. From the thalamus, the third neuron projects to the parietal cortex.

The theories of pain include:
1) Specificity ( sensory )theory and intensive (summation ) theory
2) Pattern theory and central summation theory
3) Gate control theory
4) Emotional theory - psychological / behavioral theory.

The mechanisms of pain are explained by the :
1) Peripheral mechanism
2) Change of sympathetic the nervous system
3) Dorsal horn mechanism
4) Central sensitization
5) Ascending pain pathway
6) Descending inhibition pathway.

The mechanism of medication for controlling pain is not fully explained or understood and while not all wrong, it is clearly incomplete. Many neuro-surgical methods have been developed to interrupt the pathway to the pain center.

Acupuncture has been used for a long time to relieve pain ; and it is more than 20 years since western science found that the effect of acupuncture is related to endogenous morphine. The Serotonin and Noradrenalin systems are related with the inhibitory action of descending pain path.

Also, the Serotonin system is related to the periaquaductal gray matter, the nucleus raphe magnus and posterior horns of the spinal cord. The Noradrenalin system is related with a different pathway.
Endogonenous morphine can be divided into three kinds based on their molecular weight and it reacts with four different receptors. All modalities of pain are recognized at the sensory center of the brain, and it is possible to relieve pain through controlling the pain center in the brain. Every part of the brain fulfills its unique role in relation to the blood supply. It may be possible to control or alleviate pain if we can control the blood supply in every part of the brain. To my knowledge, there is documented research relating pain and the cerebral blood flow.
It is only Korean Hand Therapy that is based on the theory or principle that a disturbance (disequilibrium) of blood flow in the brain may affect any organ resulting in an ill or diseased condition.
It is my thesis that by scientifically studying the blood flow in the brain, it will be possible to discover the pain mechanism and thereby control the pain.
All sensory transmission passes through the thalamus, which is the sensory relay center to the brain. The function of the thalamus is not completely defined as yet, but we know that it acts as a system of transportation of all information from the peripheral to the association center of the brain and affects the function of the brain. By studying the function of the brain, including the thalamus and cerebral blood circulation, it will be possible to develop effective new methods to manage pain, and to restore health to humans.

The types of pain are various depending on the classification, but it is generally accepted that there is neuropathic pain, headache pain, neuromuscular pain, visceral pain, vascular pain, and cancer pain and so on.
It will be possible to treat all kinds of pain easily and effectively if we discover the correlation between cerebral blood flow and all modalities of pain in every organ.

The goal of this presentation is to introduce the basic principles of Korea hand Therapy for the control of pain, and the management of acute pain, chronic malignant pain and chronic non-malignant pain. We need to make a comprehensive pain evaluation and management strategy.

Pain can never be eliminated completely, because it is difficult to cure pain completely. Thus it is necessary to conduct new research in order to treat pain in the safest, most effective manner possible.

Pain can be roughly classified into that caused by traumatic and non-tramatic injuries. It is relatively easy to alleviate pain from traumatic injuries if the damage is not serious. But in case of severe damage, it is better to manage pain with Western Medicine. Non-traumatic injuries induce pains from within the body. Non-traumatic tissue damage causes one to feel pain through the transmission from local peripheral nerves to the brain via the spinal cord. The factors generating pains can be classified into psychological, neurogenic, impaired circulation, cold-related and functional disorders.

Acupuncture is recognized to be very effective in relieving pain. Strong needle stimulation is known to release endorphins, which are one hundred times as powerful in its analgesic effect as morphine. If another painful stimulation is given to a painful area in the body, it stimulates the body to secrete endorphins. Therefore, needle stimulation is considered effective in producing endorphins. The brain's role is in feeling pain or inhibiting pain, which means that the brain is related to the experience of pain, and relieving pain. Therefore, we should study the brain first to find a way to eliminate pain.

The pain that we experience is due to the transmission of local stimulation of nerves leading to the brain. While studying the amount of cerebral blood flow (CBF), I discovered that non-traumatic pain also works in conjunction with the brain. Pain may originate from a functional disorder of the brain, which induces functional disorders in any area of the body. As a result, the feeling of pain from the brain becomes more severe as the functional disorder deteriorates. In other words, the pain is generated from dysfunction in the brain and the brain perceives a more severe pain as the disease worsens. Thus, it is necessary to regulate the function of the brain to cure the pain.

Traditional acupuncture relieved pain through the production of endorphins by stimulating trigger points in the locality of the body part afflicted. The stimulation of trigger points may be effective in relieving the pain, but it is not a fundamental method of diagnosing and treating pain, or of regulating the amount of CBF. Thus, there are limitations in treating intractable or severe pain.
It is necessary to diagnose and regulate the function of the brain accurately, but it is difficult to understand all of the brain's functions because it is currently beyond our detailed understanding.
So, humankind continues researching to discover the mysterious functions of the brain. Unfortunately, little research has been conducted on the brain in Oriental Medicine. The brain was considered as an essential core that somehow contained the seven emotions and five thoughts, and accounted for only some aspects of mental disease.
Also, the method of inspecting the brain's functions was not scientifically demonstrated during the log history of Oriental medicine. The Yellow Emperor's Internal Medicine Classic briefly mentioned a comparison between the "In Yong" (Yang or Carotid Pulse, as it is now called) and the Yin (Radial Artery)Pulse.
However, the importance of it was not recognized and it disappeared from the text shortly thereafter.
After I researched the relationship between In Yong( Yang) Pulse and Radial Pulse, I discovered that I could verify the effects of treatment through changes in the Yin and Yang Pulses. This Yin-Yang Pulse Diagnosis, as applied in KHT, is a very accurate and scientific method that enables one to evaluate the amount of CBF(Cerebral blood flow). With the help of Yin-Yang Pulse Diagnosis, I can clearly define a standard for the healthy state, the diseased state, the health effect of any kind of stimulation introduced to the body, and also the location of disease within the human body.
In a pathologic condition, pains and symptoms appear. If the stimulation given changes the amount of CBF, the pathologic pulse returns to a healthy one, and pathologic condition returns to health. Balancing the CBF is the unique method through which all pain can b relieved and health restored.
It is very important to diagnose the function of the brain as the root of pain. The diagnostic method for determining the amount of CBF has very important meaning. If there is pain in any part of the body, Yin-Yang Pulse comparisons shows an imbalanced condition.

When a patient's imbalanced Yin-Yang Pulse is restored to a balanced pulse condition through KHT treatment, the brain perceives less pain. I believe that changing of the amount of CBF, as determined through the KHT diagnostic method, is the most precise and effective way of relieving pain. The exact location for the diagnosis of CBF will be explained below.
The Carotid Artery and radial Artery pulses are compared in terms of the volume of blood flowing through them. Finger palpation assess the width, or diameter, of the artery as blood pulses though it. This comparison is taken as a measure of the blood flow-balance to the brain, front and back. The radial artery is palpated as a surrogate measure of the blood flow to the back of the brain through the vertebral artery, which cannot be externally palpated. The carotid artery supplies the front of the brain.)
The correct location for applying this diagnostic method is as follows: The Yang Pulse, Carotid Artery, is felt on the neck on a horizontal line though and lateral to the tip of the Adams Apple at approximately the location of Stomach 9. Actually, the pulse may be felt at this level as far lateral as the sternocleidomastoid muscle. For women, the location for the carotid palpation is between two horizontal lines typically found on the neck. The Yin pulse, palpated on the radial artery, is assessed at the wrist in the first pulse position ( Heart 7 or at Lung 9). The validity of assessment at other locations is uncertain.

II. Alternative Medicine and A Study of Korean Hand Therapy for Reliving Pain through the Regulation of Cerebral Blood Flow.

1. History and Traditional Methods

Many kinds of alternative medicine have been studied and utilized throughout history in different cultures. The primary focus has been on the relief o pain, with some attention given to treating diseases and to prevention and maintenance of health.
There are various types of alternative medicine within the scope of Oriental Medicine, but the Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine presents five methods :
1. Acupuncture with stone needles
2. Needle stimulation
3. Moxibustion therapy
4. Herbal therapy
5. Massage Bone setting and Respiratory therapy.

The relative importance of each traditional method has been described in the classics as follows:
1. Needles 2. Moxibustion 3. Herbal
Medicine Also, the priority has been presented as :
1. Moxibustion 2. Needles 3. Herbal Medicine

The characteristics of these approaches are as follows:
1. Acupuncture of Stone Needles was used for treating tumors, inflammation, extravagated blood as well as bloodletting. Blood letting and triangular needles were developed following stone needles. In recent times, bloodletting and cupping therapy were developed. Blood letting is very effective for the relief of pain.
2. The nine types of acupuncture were used for the treatment of pain by giving deep needle stimulation. The method of relieving pain by strong mechanical stimulation has been widely used.
3. Moxibusiton Therapy is very effective in removing "cold" disease symptoms and chronic conditions by applying moxa heat to the body.
4. Herbal Therapy is used to control cold and heat symptoms when internal organs are in a pathological condition. This method has been widely used for regulating the flow of vital energy in the body.
5. Physical Therapy : There are various kinds in this category, such as chiropractic, massage, tuina, abdominal breathing, Chi Gong, etc. These methods have been used in many situations, including for the relief of pain.

Alternative medicine, as shown above, can be classified into five categories and has been the subject of much study. Today needles and moxibustion are widely used for the relief of pain.
In general, in Oriental medicine many experiments were carried out to relieve pain by stimulating specific areas, points and special points. Stimulation is given according to prescriptions presented in the classics, after confirming the location, characteristics and state of the pain.
Virtually no attention has been pain to the function and blood flow-balance of the brain. The general population in many parts of the world for thousands of years for the prevention and treatment of disease have accepted traditional Oriental Medicine. However, Chinese acupuncture and moxibustion is a kind of symptomatic therapy to treat the disease by giving stimulation to the painful areas and to nearby areas of the body, or to distal points, ect., as mentioned previously.
This, in my view, is not a fundamental treatment of disease. I say this not as a criticism but simply as my observation of one of the limitations I see in the typical approach of Traditional Oriental Medicine.

Traditional Oriental Medicine is recognized to be effective in treating some pains. But there are still limits due, in my viewpoint, to the lack of deeply studying the role of the brain as it relates to pain.
For high levels of treatment, we must learn to understand, diagnose and experiment with the function of the brain.
In Oriental Medicine little study has been made in this area and even less on the effects on the brain of various type of treatment such as herbs, moxibustion, blood letting, or the various types of oriental and western physical and movement therapy. Thus it is natural that there are some limitations in Oriental Medicine's effectiveness in treating all types and levels of pain.
Therefore we must initiate deep studies into the methods of treatment that will regulate the function of the brain in order to make Oriental Medicine more effective and to develop our approach beyond its present level.

2. Yin Yang Pulse Diagnosis to Assess the Blood Balance-Flow to the Brain and the Principles of Treatment of Disease.

Pain from all diseases is related to the brain. That is, pain from non-traumatic injuries and from diseases, and the treatment and relief of pain, are all concerned with the brain. Unfortunately, there are no methods within Oriental Medicine to assess the state of the brain. Yin-Yang Pulse Diagnosis is the only precise method I am aware of for this assessment. We can use this same method to confirm the effect of our treatments. The brain affects both the functions of internal organs as well as pain. To understand the state of the brain is to understand the overall function of the whole body. The brain, the main computer of the whole body, memorizes and controls all abnormalities of the body' s organs and systems. Therefore we vitally need to understand this bio-computer. As you know, in Oriental Medicine, the theories of the brain are not given in any detail; rather the theories were systematized in relation to the phenomena of the brain. In other words, the Oriental Medicine we have known thus far is understood only in philosophical and introductory concepts. However, you will see that Oriental Medicine is very scientific and systematic theoretically when you understand the theory of the blood flow-balance to the brain. You will then understand the concepts of Yin and Yang, the Five Elements, the actions of the organs and their symptoms and the location of disease. With this knowledge, the theory of treatment can also be established more definitely. Also, through research, understanding and skill in Yin and Yang Pulse Diagnosis, you will have a clear standard of health and disease assessment, as well as a valid theory of treatment.

The diagnostic method for determining the blood flow-blanace to the brain was originally called " the comparison between the "In-Yong" pulse and the Radial Pulse. In recent times, this "In-Yon"Pulse has been called the Carotid pulse. The method of Yin-Yang Pulse Diagnosis was mentioned in the Yellow Emperor's classic of Internal Medicine but has not been utilized for approximately for 1300 years owing to lack of a detailed operational explanation. It was not mentioned at all in the classic book, the Nae-Gong or the Wang Sook Hwa Maek Kyong, which is a summary of diagnostic methods. Only in the books of Hwang-Jae-Chim-Gu-Yul-Kyong and Chim-Gu-Dae-Sung was it explained briefly.

In Japan Dr. Gosuki Doohyeki presented the Yin-Yang Pulse Diagnostic method. However, his theory did not develop further because it was somewhat different than the classic theories and it was impossible to regulate the pulses utilizing body meridian acupuncture points. I myself have studied and researched the Yin-Yang Pulse thoroughly since 1970.

3. Yin Yang Pulse Diagnosis as the Best Method to Assess the Brain Blood Flow-Balance

(1) The Locations of the Yin-Yang Pulses
The "Yin-Yon"(Yang) pulse refers to the Artery Corotis Communis, but specifically to one location along the course of this artery, at approximately the Stomach 9 location. The point was originally located approximately 3cm, lateral to the tip of the Adams Apple on both sides. However, at his point the palpitation is not clearly discernable. The most appropriate location is an additional 1.3cm. Lateral (4.5 cm total). I refer to this point as the Carotid Artery diagnostic point for the Yang Pulse. The blood flow through this point is easy to palpate.
Blood flow to the back of the brain is through the vertebral arteries. However, palpation of these bilateral arteries is difficult as they pass through the cervical vertebra. Because of these bilateral arteries is difficult as they pass through the cervical vertebra. Because of this difficulty, we palpate the radial artery at the traditional first pulse position at the wrist as the surrogate location to measure blood flow to the back of the brain. The vertebral and radial arteries derive from common artery, the bracheocephalic artery.
Therefore we can now assess the blood flow-balance to the front and rear of the brain though the palpation of the carotid and vertebral arteries, respectively. We assess and compare the carotid and radial artery flow on the same sides. In KHT we diagnose both left and right sides of the person with this method.

(2) Correct Patient Posture and Method for Pulse Diagnosis
The patient should sit in a relaxed, but erect position, looking straight ahead and not raising or lowering the head, or moving it from side to side. (Remember that you are attempting to assess the usual blood flow for the patient and therefore you want the patient to remain in his/ her usual posture.

a. Carotid Artery-Yang Pulse Assessment
The doctor should stand directly in, facing the patient, and to assess the patient's left carotid, place your left thumb, first at the tip of the patient's (assume a male) Adams Apple and then slide laterally along the horizontal line through the tip of the Adam's Apple. The objective is to first find the artery and place the thumb directly above it and then to press down for no more than three seconds. Press with three different finger forces; light, moderate and finally heavily. Do not press so forcefully as to obstruct the flow, but not so lightly that only the superficial level of the artery is felt. The goal is to assess the thickness or width, of the most distinctive point of the artery so as to estimate the amount of blood flowing through the artery and therefore feeding the back of the brain on that side of the brain.
For women, the anatomy of the caricoid cartilage is somewhat different. Whereas on men you find a peak (the tip of the Adams Apple), in women you will feel a slight valley, or depression. On either side of the depression there will usually appear a line in the neck skin. Place your thumb between these two lines and then search for the artery along that horizontal level.
Remember that the purpose of this pulse diagnosis is to assess the amount of flow through the arteries and the criteria used are to find the thickest-widest most distinct part of the artery as blood pulses through. There is no concern with pulse qualities or strength, as in traditional pulse assessment. Think of the analogy of the diameter of water pipes feeding a water tank ; a larger diameter pipe will allow more flow per minute than a narrow pipe.

b. Radial Artery-Yin Pulse Assessment
The radial artery blood flow (and therefore the vertebral blood flow) should be taken with the patient in either a sitting of supine position. In either case, the wrist should be at the level of the heart. In the seated position, the patient's left arm is held by the practitioner's hand at heart level, as if they were about to shake someone's hand. That is, palm gently opened and thumbs pointing upward. The doctor supports the patients extended left arm with his/her right hand such that the patient's wrist rests in the crook of the doctors right thumb and index finger. The doctor can then wrap their index finger around the wrist and palpate the first pulse position (Lung 9). The same procedure can be done on the patient's right side. Precision in palpation protocol is an extremely important factor in arriving at a correct assessment.
In KHT there are two diagnoses ; one for the left side comparing the left carotid and radial side and the other comparing the right carotid and radial flows.
If the patient holds their palms facing upward, the doctor, then, palpates the first positions with their index finger pads.

(3) The Concept of Thickness
The assessment of thickness of the felt pulse, rather than strength, quality, frequency or regularity is the objective. To determine whether the pulse is thin or thick, think of feeling the thickness of, for example, the outer case of a ball point pen compared to the thickness of the inner filler tube. It is a little difficult to determine and compare the thickness of the two pulses using the kinesthetic sense compared with visual estimation, so it takes some practice and learning through feedback from an experienced practitioner. A common error when first learning this method is to confuse pulse width-thickness with strength. Strength is not under consideration, only width-diameter-thickness

4. The State of the Healthy Pulse and the Effect of Treatment

In the condition of health, the left and right-sided carotid and radial have a regular and equal blood flow. This balanced and equal flow means a balanced flow to the brain. The Classic of Internal Medicine states that a balanced pulses mean healthy pulses, good circulation of blood, a balance of cold and heat in the body and normal function of the internal organs.
If the pulses are balanced, the body function becomes normal and the body will be able to effectively fight disease without outside medication. Therefore the purpose of treatment when the pulses are unbalanced is to regain normal balance. When unbalanced pulses move toward balance, then the function of the brain and all of the functions of the organs normalize and pain is relieved. Healthy pulses and pain relief go hand in hand. In general, strong stimulation in any part of the body may relieve the pain somewhat, but there will be no change in the blood flow-balance to the brain. Koryo Hand Therapy, however, brings pain relief by regulating the function of the brain.
Therefore, the purpose of treatment when there is a difference in thickness/width between the carotid and radial pulses is to recover the balance and in this way relieve the pain.

a. Imbalanced Pulses as Indicators of Pain and Disease
When there is a difference in the thickness between the radial and carotid pulses, it indicates an abnormal blood flow to the brain. This condition indicates pain and disease in the body. The condition can be relieved through balancing the pulses. When the Carotid pulse is thicker than the radial, we call it "Yang Type" pulse and the problem is located among the six Fu-organs and Yang meridians.
The degree of thickness of one pulse compared to another indicates which organ is the most excess organ. The greater the differential between the pulse widths, the more serious the problem. When the carotid is three or four times thicker than the radial, the disease is difficult to treat. When the difference is five times or greater, the disease may be incurable. If the Radial pulse is thicker than the Carotid pulse, it is called a "Yin Type" pulse and the problem is among the six Zang-orgnas and Yin meridian. It is possible to treat an imbalance of 3 to 4 times, but more than five time indicates and incurable or at least very difficult condition.
The "incurable" disease, however, can be successfully treated with the newly formulated KHT Five Element " Sooji" Food Therapy; with "Sooji Yeom Pa" Therapy (Mind Vibration) ; and with Cyber Koryo hand Therapy. In these intractable cases, both Western Medicine and other alternative medicines are of little effect.

b. Treatment Effectiveness Means Regulating the CBF
There are various methods within KHT for regulating and balancing the blood flow and therefore relieving pain and normalizing organ function. These include:
(1) KHT Special Point therapy : Corresponding Points; Micro-meridian Points.
(2) Sooji Five Element Food Therapy ; The Yin and Yang Pulses can be temporarily balanced by simply holding the appropriate Five Element Food packet in the hand.
(3) Sooji Yeoam Pa therapy is effective when based on the theories of KHT Treatment.
(4) Earth Energy Therapy
(5) Chi Circulation Therapy
(6) Body Meridian Therapy when stimulation is given to points between the wrist and elbow or around the neck. However, in severe cases, these points are in effective in balancing the pulses.
(7) Cyber Koryo Hand Therapy
(8) Ring Therapy, Wrist Bracelet Therapy and Five Element Symbol Therapy

5. Determination of the Effect of the Treatment

Regulating the blood flow to the brain whenever stimulation is performed should relieve pain. If there is no change in balance, that is, if carotid and radial pulse, thickness do not move toward equality, then the treatment is incomplete and the disease condition will continue unchanged.
In Oriental Medicine, the treatment was given to prevent the pain by stimulating the transmission system, by applying symptomatic therapy, and by giving strong stimulation, either tonification or sedation. However, the function of the brain cannot be regulated effectively. This regulation should be the goal, as the brain is the main factor, which causes pain and disease. It is very important for us to study various methods for the regulation of the functions of the brain.

6. KHT Theories on Regulating the CBF : Cerebral Blood Flow

Many KHT theories have excellent effects in regulating the blood flow-balance of the brain. However, most effective are stimulation of nerve reflex points, Sooji Yeom Pa Therapy and Sooji Five Element Food Therapy. Pain relief is excellent though application of nerve reflex therapy of the hand. General body acupuncture may have some effect on pain, however, stimulation does not effect the brain blood flow-balance.

a. Correspondence Therapy should Influence Cerebral Blood Flow
KHT Correspondence Therapy is one of the fundamental theories and therapies of KHT and is more unique than many other approaches. The reason for that is more than reflex nerve stimulation ; it also affects the CBF.
Correspondence therapy in KHT has two primary aspects : How to search for the appropriate corresponding area and specific treatment point and secondly, how to treat the points.

b. Hand and Body Corresponding Area Relationships
As shown on the below chart, Correspondence Therapy was first developed in 1971. The mechanism in Correspondence Therapy is very similar to the Visceral-Somatic Reflex. Some of the KHT hand-body relationships are as follows:
l Palm side of the hand corresponds to the anterior surface of the body.
l Dorsal surface corresponds to the back of the body.
l Middle finger corresponds the head, neck and thoracic cavity
l Palm of the hand to the abdominal region
l Dorsal surface of the hand to the waist region
l Palmar side of the distal interphalangeal joint (3rd joint) corresponds to the chin
l The middle phalange corresponds to the neck (CV22 or DU14)
l The metacarpophanlgeal joint corresponds to the heart "Mo" point

The midline of the palmar surface corresponds to the Conception Vessel(Ren Meridian) of the body. The first point of the hand K- A meridian, K-A1, corresponds to CV1 and is located approximately 5 mm distal from the wrist crease closest to the palm, on the midline.
K-A1 corresponds to the sexual organs; and K-A8 is located midway on the vertical midline of the palm. K-A8 corresponds to the navel.
K-B1, at the distal end of the wrist on the dorsal surface of the hand, corresponds to the area between the anus and the tip of the coccyx.
K-B14, located on the 1st knuckle of the dorsal midline of the hands corresponds thoracic vertebra T7-8.
K-B19, located at the 2nd interphalangeal joint, corresponds to the 7th cervical vertebra.
K-B27 is located just proximal to the middle finger nail base and corresponds to the posterior part of the head at approximately DU17.
The fifth(little) finger corresponds to the leg and the 4th (ring fingers) corresponds to the arm.
The right arm and leg correspondences are found on the right hand and on the left hand for the left arm and leg. Search for and treat corresponding points, as described below, on the hand located on the same side of the body midline as problem or pain.

c. Corresponding Reflex Point Characteristics
The corresponding point is reflected on the hands as a tender, especially reactive point when pressure is applied. When looking for such tender points, you must search very carefully and then give stimulation to the painful reflex point(s) found. Searching is conducted with a metal Point Probe, of which there are several varieties in KHT.
Stimulation is accomplished with such things as hand needles, metallic pellets, hand moxa, T-pellets, Micro-Current Stimulation with the E-bema, etc.

d. Regulating the Cerebral Blood Flow with Corresponding Points
The KHT mapping of the relationship of body and hand is the most effective in changing pulses. After Dr. Tae Woo Yoo introduced his ideas in 1971-75, others suggested alternative mappings. However, the different organization of hand body relationships did not prove effective in changing pulses.

(A)

(B)

When stimulation is given to hand points which correspond to body points ST.9 and UB10 ( on the hand E-8 and I-2 respectively, on the middle finger), the pulses can be changed. Pulses can be re-balanced through application of stimulation to these points.

Corresponding Point Search Procedure :
1. Carefully and specifically locate the most painful area of the body. You must ask the patient to be very specific about the location of the most intense pain-discomfort.
2. Locate the approximate corresponding area on the hand based on your knowledge of the relationship of hand and body.
3. Using a blunt probe tip or finger pressure, find the approximate points of the greatest tenderness on the hand and /or fingers.
4. Search this area with a less blunt tipped probe, applying enough pressure to find the tender point, but not enough to elicit a false positive reaction. When you find the reflex point, the patient will show a startle reaction, or grimace. They will definitely know that you are on the point. Search until you get this reaction.
5. Confirm whether the pulses are balanced or unbalanced through Yin-Yang Pulse Diagnosis.
6. After finding the accurate corresponding point, make an experiment by applying a metal press pellet to the point. If you are on the correct location, then the pulses will balance immediately.
7. After you achieve the balance, apply Seoam hand needles, moxa, pellets, or E-Beam micro-current to the point.
8. Strong stimulation on the corresponding points will produce the best effect in balancing the brain blood flow-balance and therefore reducing pain in the body.

7. Abdominal Diagnosis and the 12 Mo Points

The Six Jang and Six Bu organs of Oriental Medicine controls and maintains the function of the body. They also govern mental functions and the five sensory organs as well as the physiological functions of the body. Therefore it is necessary to stimulate the Jang-Bu organs for the regulation of the mental functions, as well as controlling pathological states of internal organs.
The condition of the Jang-Bu can be diagnosed though palpation of the abdomen. The degree of sensitivity of the Mo points reflects the condition of the internal organs. The corresponding Mo points on the hand will also reflect the organ condition. These can be diagnosed with an electric point finder on the hand.
Reactive Mo points will register as increased current flow. Combine this information with the patient's symptoms and pulse type to arrive at the appropriate treatment to

bring balance. This will resolve the unbalanced functioning of the internal organs. The hand Mo points are shown below.

The 12 Mo Points in KHT

8. Pain Relief Through Combining Reactive Mo Points, Corresponding Points and Pulse Balancing of Cerebral Blood Flow

a. If a patient has a pain or problem in their body, first carefully note the extent, location, frequency and duration of the condition. In the cases of musculoskeletal pain, note the limitations in range of motion though actual checking.
b. Search for the corresponding tender points in the hands though use of a test probe. Mark the point locations.
c. Diagnose the Yin-Yang Pulses. Check the left and right side pulses for the degree of unbalance between the radial and the carotid pulses. Mentally note the relative degree of unbalance.
d. Experimentally apply one of the treatment methods. Apply Press-Pellets, North and South Pole magnets, ect. to the corresponding points. After 10 to 20 seconds.
e. Re-check the pulses to determine if balance has been achieved due to stimulation of the correct corresponding point. If balance has not been achieved, then re-apply the pellet, magnet, or other stimulators in the correct location.

The principle is that the effect of the treatment must be judged by the change in the pulses. If the pulse differential between the radial and the carotid flow on each side reduces or becomes zero, then the treatment is judged to be effective.

f. As soon as you remove the pellet from the corresponding point, the pulses will return to the former unbalanced condition. After experimenting with both hands, mark the accurate location on the hands for the corresponding point. Then move to step 7. Palpate the Mo Points of the abdomen to determine the most sensitive point from among the Mo points and the Three Constitution test points (St.25, Sp.15 and Cv4-5).
g. Re-confirm the pulse type on each side as being either Yin or Yang type.
h. Apply a press pellet, magnet, etc. to the sensitive hand Mo Points and then confirm
your location by comparing the carotid and radial pulse widths. Again, your location is correct if the pulse recovers to a balanced state.
i. Continue this process until you recover the balanced pulse state.

Corresponding chart between Hand and Body Parts

In summary we can say that both appropriate corresponding points and Mo points, when stimulated with pellets, magnets and other KHT tools, should produce a balanced front and back blood flow to the brain.
It is important to conduct this simple kind of testing to determine the effectiveness of the proposed treatment prior to applying it for a longer period of time.
The ability to test the effect of a proposed treatment though a mini-stimulation for 10 to 20 seconds prior to actually applying the treatment is a major strength of KHT. In general, we usually treat disease without being able to confirm the effect prior to the treatment. Through stimulation of the correct corresponding reflex points, we not only relieve pain, but also balance the blood flow to the brain. The combined effect provides a maximally effective treatment.

9. Application of the Eight Extraordinary Points of the Hands for the Correction of Posture

All pins of the human body may be generated from unbalanced posture. Therefore it is necessary to correct poor posture a part of a pain treatment plan. This correction allows pain to be treated more easily and efficiently. The Eight Extra points of the hands are an excellent way to correct posture and therefore pain.

10. Theories, Methods of treatment, and Instruments for the Regulation of the Cerebral Blood Flow

Most acupuncture diagnostic and treatment approaches do not emphasize blood circulation and particularly CBF: Cerebral Blood Flow. The diagnostic method of Traditional Oriental Medicine relies on sensory observation and client symptoms to develop a diagnosis. Similarly, the effects of treatment methods are difficult to assess unless the patient reports symptom changes. In KHT, however, the Yin-Yang Pulse balance enables the practitioner to determine the presence of pathology and its degree of severity. Also, treatments on the hands with appropriate tools and devices enables effective regulation of the blood flow to the brain. Much experimentation has shown that the same effects cannot be easily achieved with other methods.

(1) Body Meridians and CBF Regulation
Although acupuncture meridians and points are distributed throughout the body, only some effect the cerebral blood flow. It seems that stimulation of only acupuncture points around the neck, the wrists and elbows effects CBF. Stimulation of meridian points such as Stomach 36 has little effect on cerebral blood flow. Although Spleen 6 has good effect on lower abdominal pain, it has no effect on the CBF. My experiments also show that acupuncture and moxibustion on the upper abdomen can in fact increase the Yin-Yang pulse imbalance. The carotid pulse increases and the disease may get worse before treatment. In these experiments, needles, moxa and magnets were tested.

(2) Various Kinds of KHT Tools
Stimulation with the appropriate tools and materials is very important in achieving the best treatment effects.
The design and materials of the tools and devices used in KHT is critical in balancing the blood flow to the brain. The tools found effective in KHT are:
1. Hand Needles 2. Moxa 3. Magnet 4. E-Beam 5. Tonificaiton and Sedation
6. Metal Stimulation (gold, silver, aluminum, etc.)

(3) Special Methods of Treatment
1. KHT Ring Therapy 2. KHT Food Therapy 3. KHT Yeom Pa Therapy(=Mind Vibration/Intention) 4. Cyber Hand Therapy 5. Moxibustion Therapy

These "special methods" have been shown to be even more effective than needles in relieving pain and tension. These methods can also be utilized for the prevention and treatment of chronic, difficult to treat pain and incurable and malignant disease conditions.

The study of Ring Therapy, Food Therapy, and Cyber Hand Therapy are important for the regulation of blood flow-balance to the brain.

a. KHT Ring Therapy
Dr. Tae Woo Yoo discovered that each of the five fingers is related to one of the six Yin organs of the body. The relationship is that the thumb-liver, index-heart/pericardium, middle finger-spleen, ring finger-lung and little finger - kidney.
If there is pain or dysfunction of an internal organ, it is reflected on the fingers as deformity or as a dull color. The affected finger also registers slightly higher temperature, as registered in thermogram studies.
Placing a silver ring on the affected finger acts as a heat sink to release heat. This action leads to a re-balancing of the pulses to a healthy conditon.
Currently there are two types of rings, and a third is in the design stage, that is suitable for pulse re-balancing.
The appropriate finger can be determined by first assessing the carotid-radial pulse balance and then placing the ring on each finger and re-testing the pulses. When the ring is on the correct finger corresponding to the excess organ, then the pulses will re-balance, or move closer in thickness. When the pulses move to a balanced condition, pain levels wil drop and the affected internal organ will have received a treatment via the ring effect.

If you wear the Silver Ring on the thumb, it is very helpful in the function of the liver.

b. Five Element Sooji Food Therapy
The Six Jang organs pay a major role in the functioning of the mind, senses and functions of the body. If the functions of the Jang organs are normal, then there will be good functioning of the physiological functions of the body. However, if the Jang organs become unbalanced, then the function of the body also becomes unbalanced. Therefore, balancing the function of the Jang organs is crucial to proper functioning of the body.

Five Element Sooji Food

The function of the Jang organs can be regulated by stimulation of the painful reflex point, the Mo points and by balancing the cerebral blood flow. Regulating the function of the Jang organs and balancing the blood flow to the brain seem to have one-to-one correspondence. Therefore, if the blood flow to the brain is balanced, then the blood and nutrition to the organs is appropriate for good functioning. We can prevent disease and maintain health though insuring normal functioning of the Jang organs.
Regulations of the Jang organs can be achieved to some extend though exterior stimulation in cases of light dysfunction. However, in deteriorated cases it is almost impossible to regulate the function of the organs thought external stimulation or medical therapy. However, in KHT the six Jang organs can be regulated through the Yeoam Pa Therapy and Five Element Sooji Food Therapy. Sooji Food was created based on selecting and specially processing those foods, such as grains, different types of rice, nuts, and vegetables that tonify a specific element. There are five types of food, one for each of the five traditional elements. Ingestion of the appropriate food, based on Yin Yang Pulse Diagnosis, will balance the CBF. In effect, patients can rebalance their pulses on a daily basis though this focused form of super nutrition.

Important Aspects of Sooji Food Therapy.
1. It supplies sufficient and balanced nutrition to deficient Jang organs.
2. The choice of the appropriate food supplement is based on KHT diagnosis of the appropriate deficient organ.

The Appropriate Food can be Determined with Several Test:
1. If the patient has pain or tension in the body, then simply holding a packet of the food in the hand will relieve the pain of tension. Conversely, holding the incorrect Five element Food packet in ones hand will lead to greater pain and discomfort, as an already excess condition is further amplified(tonified).
2. The pain and discomfort when palpating the abdomen at the formerly tender, excess Mo Points will be relieved, when the patient simply holds the appropriate Five Element Food in their hand for one to two minutes. Holding an unsuitable food packet will lead to more severe discomfort.
3. The unbalanced Yin-Yang Pulse will become balanced when holding the appropriate food packet in the hand.

c. KHT moxibustion
KHT has developed a unique form called hand moxibustion. Loose moxa herb fiber is rolled into tiny cylinders which are affixed to a cardboard base. The adhesive coated base conveniently remains in the position on the hand while the moxa cylinder burns slowly toward the base. As the herb burns, heat is sent downward into the acupoint, stimulating the underlying tissue / acupuncture structure. This unique design minimizes the possibility of blistering the hands. The regular use of moxibustion promotes the circulation of Qi and blood, which enhances energy level and immune system. Thus, KHT moxibusiton can be used for both prevention and treatment of diseases.
Also, moxibusion is excellent for maintenance of warmth in the body. In addition, moxibustion can be used for "warm" diseases, such as fever, as well as for "cold" conditions. The moxibustion tubes are applied daily for 2~3 months to a specific acu-point pattern on both hands. Typically 3 to 5 tubes are burned sequentially on each of the specified points in one session. For severe disease condition, 5 or more tubes per point are recommended
d. Sooji Yeoam Pa Therapy
Sooji Yeoam Pa Therapy is very excellent in regulating the blood flow-balance to the brain. A severe disease produces an extreme difference between the blood flow to the anterior and posterior areas of the brain. The degree of the differences in the two pulses can be 5 to 20 times wider-thicker.
In these cases, no method of treatment is effective in regulating the two pulses. (needles, moxa, or herb medicine have little effect.)
But, in KHT, the extreme difference in the two pulses can be regulated by applying "Five Element Sooji Food Therapy", "Sooji Yeoam Pa Therapy"(Mental Intention) and "Cyber Hand Therapy".

Two decades have passed since I have begun researching and testing "Sooji Yeoam Pa Therapy." In 1989, I had an opportunity to present this Yeoam Pa Therapy briefly in the Pacific Symposium held in USA. In that seminar, I presented an experiment where the patient's abdominal pain was relieved by applying a stimulation with the tonification and sedation method to my own hand, after confirming the patient's pain in the abdominal region. I also made the pain re-occur. Dr. Omurasiaki from Japan, who attended the symposium, said that it was really curious and extraordinary to relieve the pains applying treatment to other peoples' hand, not the patient's hand.

From that time, I have studied and researched this Yeom Pa Therapy more passionately in order to treat the patient's pain by applying treatment to other peoples' hands and I presented this therapy to the public in 1998.

KHT Hand Models

I expect that Yeom Pa Therapy will be further developed and applied much in the coming 21st centry, as this therapy produces excellent treatment effects. It is especially effective in regulating the front-to -back cerebral blood flow-balance. I am fully convinced that the most powerful and effective method to regulate the cerebral blood flow is Sooji Yeom Pa Therapy and Five Element Sooji Food Therapy. These therapies should be thoroughly researched. Everybody knows the influence of the cerebrum. It is acknowledged that the hands have a great influence on the motor center in cerebral hemisphere. Neurologically, a very high percentage of the motor cortex is devoted to motor functions of the hand. So it is stated that the hand is the "second" or exterior brain.

There is a more powerful effect by inserting needles into the plastic KHT Hand Models than inserting needles directly to the hand. This may seem surprising, but it is true. However, stimulation of points on a model of the body has little effect.
It is possible to regulate the cerebral blood flow only when giving stimulation with KHT Treatment.

e. Cyber Hand Therapy
Cyber Hand Therapy couples mental intention focused through a three dimensional model of the hand along with modern electronic technology and scientific methodology. Cyber Hadn Therapy relies on an electronic model of the hand imaged on a television screen to be the vehicle for focusing mental intention. The computerized program directing the cyber hand therapy unit coupled to the television contains all of the theories of and treatment protocols of KHT. The operator can manipulate a stimulated needle on the image projected on the screen. Tonification and sedation patterns can be projected and with the simple click of a button, a bleeping sound is emitted to focus. The simulated simple click of a button, a bleeping sound is emitted to focus. The simulated stimulation conveys the information to the cerebrum leading to the regulation of the cerebral blood flow.

This Cyber system is excellent for the regulation of autonomic nervous system and hormones, as well as the promotion of immune strength.

Cyber Hand Therapy

As described above, I introduced the relevant acupuncture theories and KHT's important theories and stimulus tools, which influence the cerebral blood flow. By regulating the blood flow to the brain by applying these kinds of methods, we can relieve and treat the pain due to the regulation of hormones.
Therefore, we should study the methods, which the human body emplys to naturally treat disease through the regulation of the amount of cerebral blood flow rather than relying on uncertain symptomatic therapies, and uncertain methods of stimulation.

Pain or disease anywhere in the body can be demonstrated with the distribution of the heat in the body as shown through Thermogram photo tests. As previously described, the radial and carotid pulses can be balanced through the application of Hand Needles and Seoam Hand moxa on the Corresponding Points, Micro Meridian Hand Points and Specific Points in KHT. With this method, you can see the fact that the heat concentrations representing the disease and or pain conditions are dispersed and the body normalized. Concurrently the pulses are balanced and therefore the blood flow is restored to the normal state.

Body trunk temperature higher is than the periphery. If heat in the body is evenly distributed, it indicates a healthy condition of the body. On the contrary, when having a disease or pain somewhere in the body, the distribution of the heat in the body is uneven. KHT methods of treatment can normalize the heat distribution.

With thermogram examination, you can also confirm the change in the distribution of the heat in the body after applying KHT treatment . We can conclude KHT diagnosis of cerebral blood flow and KHT treatment is effective. KHT methods of treatment are all evaluated on their capacity to balance cerebral blood flow.

The pain can be relieved very effectively if applying Correspondence Therapy, which can regulate the cerebral blood flow. However, there are still limits in treating disease in KHT. For example, severe injury of tissue, inveterate disease, or condition requiring surgery is difficult or impossible to change. However, the pain resulting from slight injury can be very effectively treated with KHT. Shown below are conditions and associated pains, which are difficult to treat.

11. Statistics on the treatment of Pain

a. Cancerous Tumors, Severe Injury of Tissue, Inverterate Pain, Hallucinosis, Toxic Pain, Organic Disease
These kinds of pains are difficult to treat because most of them are generated though severe injury of tissue. In this case, apply Correspondence Therapy regulate the amount of blood flow to the brain.
In cases severe pain, regulating the cerebral blood flow, all pains can be reduced. Because pains in general are generated from the disharmony of blood flow, the restoration of blood flow balance will relieve pain. Many methods of KHT can be applied, including the E-Beam (micro-current), Yeom Pa Therapy, and Sooji Food Therapy. However, the period of giving a treatment depends on the degree of disease.

b. Simple Organic Disease
In this case, you can reduce the pain, but you should treat until the disease recovers completely. For example, a simple lumbar disc herniation problem accompanies severe lumbago and pains in the lower limbs. In this case, if you regulate the cerebral blood flow with KHT treatment, the pain can be relieved or eliminated. However, if you stop giving treatment prematurely, the disease may re-occur. Therefore, treatment should continue until the disc herniation is relieved completely. The period of treatment depends on the condition of the disc. In a simple case, two or three times are enough, but in a severe case or with patients in bad health, the number of treatments may range from 7~30 sessions.

c. The Treatment of Pain of Not of Non-Organic Disease
All pains of non-organic disease can be treated effectively. In general, neurogenic pain is relieved after 1~5 treatments. However in cases of severe disharmony of the amount of blood flow to the brain, it is recommended to include Five Element Sooji Food in the therapy plan. Also Seoam Hand Moxa should be applied better effect.
The following chart shows the limit and application of KHT for the treatment pain and the regulation of blood flow-balance to the brain.

d. Statistic for the treatment of Pain
In KHT, we analyze the effects of treatment, collecting various clinical experiences based on KHT treatment. Summarized below are the statistics of various clinical treatments which were utilized in a clinical experience. The statistics of the clinical experience on the relief of the pain was collected on the basis of the treatises which have been revealed by many researchers.

e. In KHT, numerous clinical experiences have been revealed from about 170 KHT branches in South Korea. Collective books of clinical experience have been published. As introduced above, the 14th Korean-Japanese Acupuncture Symposium has been held in Korea and the collections of treatises were published. A monthly magazine was published with 226 volumes at the present. In this magazine, various clinical experience, and method of treatment were described.
Following are various methods of treatment on these clinical experiences which were revealed in the symposium and monthly magazine.
I would introduce the clinical experiences on the headache, back pain, and shoulder pain. They were classified into; 1. age, 2.factors of diseases, 3. stage of disease, 4. prescription of diseases 5. stimulus instruments used for treatment 6. frequency of treatment and period.

(1) Headache
The headache is classified into migraine, pain in the forehead, upper headache, occipital headache, and over-all headache, Intermittent or constant pain or acute and chronic diseases can also induce it.
Most people who suffer from headache were reported in the 30 to 70 years old. They were many patients who suffer from chronic disease.
Headache caused by stress and chronic indigestion is the most likely cause. Treatment prescription : Five Element, Four needle pattern was applied most for the regulation of the function of the internal organs and the regulation of the blood flow to the brain.
KHT Stimulus Instruments : Hand Needles, Seoam Moxa, and Seoam Press Pellets
Results : Twenty-two percent out of treated patients were shown to have their headache eliminated after one to five treatments.
Thirty-two percent out of treated patients were demonstrated positive results after one month's treatment.

12. Thermographic Study of the KHT Treatment of Headache Pains

The patient group was examined with thermograms to determine the distribution of heat in the brain and the effect of KHT treatment.
Through thermogram, we can see the distribution of the heat when stimulating with Hand Needles, Seoam Moxa, Seoam Pellets. These effects were shown after the treatment of 5 to 20 times ( 1~2 times /week)

Shown below are two representative results out of ten patients in the clinical study. During the stimulation with KHT, the physiological changes of patients monitored until complete or significant recoveries of symptoms are achieved. Through the result of this examination, you can confirm with thermograms that the heat in the brain diminished. This means that the headache is completely relieved with KHT treatment. That is, the regulation of the cerebral blood flow is demonstrated to improve and balanced the blood circulation on the whole body.

*THERMOGRAM ( Introduced below are two kinds of clinical experience )

Example 1 : Mr. Kang ( Male, January 2nd, 1938, 48kg)
Right Side ; Fire and Fire Excess, Left Side : Fire and Fire Deficiency

The examine complained of the migraine in the left and right sides, and especially felt more severe pain in the right side. He has suffered from headache for about 20 years. Nowadays, he takes a great amount of western medicine to cure his headache. The particular thing is that his headache becomes more severe when he eats something hot or overeats. Also, he couldn't drink alcohol at all because of the rising of serious headache.
In thermogram before treatment, we can see strong heat in the head of both sides. After stimulation, very strong heat n the head of both sides was deduced. In addition, heat in the abdominal and back area of the body was diminished.
It suggests that the headache was relieved and the function of the whole body was controlled with only the treatment of Correspondence Therapy

Example 2 : Mrs. Choo ( Female, November 6th, 1952, 58 kg)
Right side : Fire and metal Excess, Left Side : Water and Earth Deficiency

This examinee has suffered from migraine in the left side for about 3 years. Especially, lumbago, severe insomnia, and pain in the left leg bothered her most. She often suffered from indigestion and constipation.
The thermogram shows remarkable changes before and after stimulation. After stimulation, improvement was seen on thermogram and subjective symptoms were greatly reduced.

III. CONCLUSION

Oriental Acupuncture seeks to relieve the pain by applying Tonification and Sedation Methods by giving strong or weak stimulation or simple stimulation based on four diagnostic methods (namely, inspection, auscultation and olfaction, inquiring and palpation.)
Traditional practitioners then treat the disease with ambiguous expectations of pain reduction through stimulation of various parts of the body, rather than with certainty, prior confirmation and demonstration.
But, according to the research on the cerebrum, it is known that pain is alleviated by the production of endorphins through mental or physical stimulation. In this case, even though the stimulation is not given to special points, strong stimulation in the painful reaction area of the body may be as effective as the stimulation of special point in relieving pain. Many kinds of stimulation such as to a Qi point, a New Point, a Reaction Point and a painful point came to be developed historically. Strong stimulation in some part of the body may also have excellent effects to a certain extent.
In some cases, the stimulation of acupuncture may have no effect, or the disease can re-occur. Thus, the stimulation of the present methods of acupuncture has some clear limits in reliving the pain.

In Modern Western Medicine, they recognize the fact that the pain is felt though the stimulation of peripheral nerves and perceived by the cerebrum and that the factors of all pains, except for traumatic injury, are related to the cerebrum. However, most allopathic practitioners rely on pharmaceutical therapy in relieving pain, which leads to many side effects.
During research on the fundamental theories of Koryo Hand Therapy, I came to understand the fact that one of the biggest factors causing all pain, except for traumatic injury, is generated from the cerebrum. That is, the pain is generated from the disturbance of the locality worsens. Thus, the pain core is in the cerebrum because the cerebrum is related to the pain generated naturally from the body as well as being the center for perceiving pain. So, to treat pain, it is important to give direct stimulation to the painful area of the body but the most important thing to recognize is that we should make a study of the cerebrum to increase our ability to reduce pain.
The cerebrum was not specifically referred in Oriental Medicine, but only explained in symptomatic aspects. To know exactly the function of the brain, we should first grasp the amount of the blood flow to the brain. In one of TCM's classics, it is stated that there exists blow where Qi acts and Qi where blood circulates. This means that if the amount of blood flow to the brain is normal, all functions of the body and the movement of Qi remain normal. To determine the amount and balance of blood flow to the brain, you can diagnose through the Yin Yang Pulse Method. You can also determine the extent and location of the disease, as well as the confirmation of the effect of the treatment. Thus, if you can regulate the cerebral blood flow, all pains and painful symptoms can be resolved. So it is necessary to apply various kinds of methods for the regulation of cerebral blood flow. ( In KHT, the hands are the body part that regulates with certainly the amount of blood to the brain. In Oriental body acupuncture, the neck and the area between the wrist and elbow joint can be used. Unfortunately, in cases of a severe disharmony, regulation of blood flow to the brain, with both Western Medicine and other Alternative medicine, it is almost impossible.
In KHT, however, Five Elements Sooji Food Therapy and Cyber Hand Therapy can be confirmed to be very effective in regulating it. If the function of the brain is normal, you don't feel any pain at all. Thus, to normalize the function of the brain, you should regulate the cerebral blood flow.
Therefore, in the future, I think that Oriental Acupuncture Medicine should study the fastest and most powerful methods of treatment for the regulation of the amount of cerebral blood flow.
In KHT, it is demonstrated that Correspondence Therapy, Ring Therapy, Seoam Press Pellet Therapy, Moxibusiton Hand Therapy, Cyber Hand Therapy, and Five Element Sooji Food Therapy have excellent effects in regulating cerebral blood flow.
Therefore, at this point of time when a new millennium is beginning, I think we should develop new research focused on the cerebrum, rather than on ambiguous and non-verifiable methods of treatment. From now on, the regulation of cerebral blood flow will be the only way to relieve all pains. If this criterion is used, then you can achieve satisfactory results in relieving all pains. Numerous clinical experiences and experiments have also demonstrated this, both statistically and with more subjective themographic studies.
However, much research is still needed to understand and achieve success in treating severe pain from traumatic injury, or cancerous tumors. I want to refer to the book of Koryo Hand Acupuncture written by the present author and also other associated KHT materials.
I invite all of you to learn and practice of KHT : Koryo Hand Therapy for the health and benefit of all of your patients.
